Stedplan has been active for 15 years and has offices in the cities of Amsterdam and Gouda in the Netherlands, Europe. Stedplan and Ecocities

Our company values sustainable urban development and Ecocities. It is estimated that around 50% of the world’s population now lives in cities and urban areas. This number will grow considerably in the coming years, making cities the key factor in sustainability thinking and creating the smallest possible ecological footprint.

An Ecocity can feed itself with minimal reliance on the surrounding countryside, power itself with renewable sources of energy. Water is used efficiently. An Ecocity is composed of compact, pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use quarters or neighbourhoods. These are connected by a polycentric urban system of public-transport-oriented locations. An Ecocity should be an attractive place to live and work: well designed public spaces, green areas and cherishing cultural heritage. Such cities contribute to the health, safety and well-being of the inhabitants.

Stedplan and Transit Oriented Deveolopment

Stedplan has expertise in Transit Oriented Development (TOD). In the planning and design of urban centres, TOD plays an important role. It refers to the development of compact, high-density and mixed-use centres that are located around new or existing convenient and accessible public transit stations. This makes TOD a powerful strategy for smart city growth. By encouraging the use of public transportation, TOD can contribute to sustainable, environmentally friendly and energy-efficient cities. TOD can also be part of an economic strategy because it can act as a catalyst for revitalization, bringing new retail and residential investments, and connecting residents to jobs and services located throughout the region. Stedplan advises local and regional authorities about design, planning and strategy of TOD areas, corridors and networks.
